Korda Samfónía- Reykjavík, Iceland
The collective big band from all Icelandic MetamorPhonics partners
The Reykjavík band was established in February 2021. Members come from the Iceland Arts Academy, Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Occupation rehabilitation centres in Suðurnes, Hafnarfjörður and Akranes as well as Hugarafl, mental health support group in Reykjavík. Each of the occupation rehabilitation centres and Hugarafl have their own MetamorPhonics bands, which cater exclusively for their clients. This is where people get to experience the creative process in a secure environment, with their peers and see if this is something which they would like to explore further. Each year 2-3 participants from each institution can apply to become members in Korda Samfónía, to push themselves even further and work towards a big, public performance with students from the Iceland Arts Academy and players from the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. The group will work together for 10 days each year to compose, arrange and rehearse new original music, which they will perform at the end of the year in Iceland's main concert venue, Harpa. Korda Samfónía´s first public performance will be held in Norðurljós in Harpa on the 21st of May 2021.
