The collective big band from all Icelandic MetamorPhonics partners

The Reykjavík based band, Korda Samfónía was established in February 2021. Members came from the Iceland Arts Academy, Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Occupation rehabilitation centres in Suðurnes, Hafnarfjörður and Akranes as well as Hugarafl, mental health support group in Reykjavík. In 2022 three new occupation rehabilitation centres joined the programme, which means there now are MetamorPhonics projects taking place around the whole island. Each of the occupation rehabilitation centres have their own MetamorPhonics bands, which cater exclusively for their clients, however each year 2-3 participants from each institution can apply to become members in Korda Samfónía, to take on greater musical challenges, work with people from across the country and perform in major public events. Korda Samfónía comes together for 11 days each year. During these intensive but exciting days the group collaboratively compose, arrange and rehearse their new original music. On the eleventh and final day of each season the group performs their brand new work to a public audience in a major performance event. Korda Samfónía’s debut performance took place in Eldborg, Iceland’s most prestigious performance venue and was nominated for the Iceland Music Awards for Event of the Year. The performance was recorded live and in May 2022 the band’s debut album, ´Ég sé þig´ was released on Spotify. That same week a TV programme about the band and it´s members was shown on Iceland´s national TV station RUV.
