The Messengers – London, UK

The Messengers are the first and original MetamorPhonics band, set up in 2012.

The Messengers is a 30-piece band of strings, wind, brass, vocals and rhythm section. With all original music, this unique band takes you on a journey of heart- warming, soulful songs about life and love, laced with cinematic grooves and lyrics that need to be heard. The band is funded by and delivered at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, in collaboration with homeless charities across London. Membership is equally split between students at the school and people with lived experience of homelessness. In 2016 The Messengers collaborated with the international record label, Luaka Bop, and one of the label’s artists Doug Hream Blunt. Together, Doug and the band wrote a whole new set to perform on the main stage of Field Day Music Festival in Victoria park. The collaboration continued in 2017 when the band and Doug got back together and recorded the music from the previous year, produced by Alexis Taylor. They debuted with a sell-out gig at the Jazz Café in Camden and performed for an audience of thousands at the Walthamstow Garden Party, where they were the warm up act for Toots and the Maytals. In 2020 the band released their debut album, Bear Witness, which can be accessed on Bandcamp, Spotify and iTunes. Post pandemic the band bounced back with public performances at St John´s church at Waterloo and at the Guildhall’s 600 seater venue, Milton Court Concert Hall. The Messengers will not be defined by the past, but rather look to the future with their message of unity, respect, empathy, creativity and of course...powerful music!
